Serope naturalises as a British citizen

Serope set up as an Insurance Agent for Alliance Insurance operating out of his father-in-laws premises at 16 - 17 Castle St. He later acquired an Emigration business operating out of the same premises when his father in law died. In 1899 Serope was involved in the proposal for building a light railway to connect Dromineer with Nenagh. Goods came down the Shannon and Lough Derg so this was a very viable proposition. Decades earlier there had been a suggestion by members of the North Tipperary Club to build a canal on this route.

In 1907 Serope was appointed Consul to the Imperial State of Persia. He was amongst the first to offer his congratulations on 26/01/1922 to President Griffith & Chairman Collins, and to extend diplomatic recognition and recognise on behalf of the Shah of Persia, the new Irish State.

Serope died in London in 07/06/1938 but had already arranged for his body to be brought back to Ireland to be buried in Kilodiernan Cemetery, Puckane.

Serope had two children, a daughter Nounya Vera and son Oliver Charles (15/10/1894). By all accounts they had a privileged childhood as evidenced by the presence of two governesses in the Census of 1901 and 1911. They lived in 25 Summerhill. Oliver Charles is subject of a separate entry,
